acrylic on canvas, 2025
48 × 36 in, unframed
Painting inspired by a vintage photo of trick rider Tillie Baldwin, circa 1912. Originally a hairdresser for movies, Tillie's chance meeting with Will Rogers launched her into performing with Wild West shows and Rogers' own troupe. She won multiple rodeo competitions, earning fame as one of the trailblazing cowgirls of the American West. Tille is also credited for introducing the middy blouse and pantaloons to distaff rodeos.
