acrylic on canvas, 2026
60 × 48 in, unframed
This piece is inspired by the traditional Mexican bingo game "loteria", which I played many times as a child. We used actual uncooked "frijoles" beans to mark our cards. This bingo card shows symbols from the border that became the iconography of my experience: quinceaneras, pinatas, the Mexican superhero "El Chapulin Colorado” we watched on TV, Jordache jeans, and La Lorona, the mythical weeping mother of ghost story lore.
